The electorate of Gibson is named after Gladys Ruth Gibson.

Gladys Ruth Gibson was born in 1901 and died in 1972. She had many notable achievements throughout her life. One of her enduring achievements is her contribution to South Australia’s schools.

Gladys was a founding member of the Australian College of Education and the Women Teachers' Guild.

One of Gladys’ most notable achievements was organising the first book week in South Australia. The first book week in South Australia began on 11 November 1946. Today, book week is an integral part of the school calendar.
